Here, a not so nice picture of myself doing what I actually enrolled at school for (must have been early 2016)
Hi there, wazzzzup?!
I didn’t have an exciting college life. When I listen to others telling their college stories, I think to myself, damn, there is so much I could have gotten up to – I am not sure of the morality of those things. However, in as much as I led what I believe was a whack college life, there’s a few, very few things that I got up to besides submitting assignments, presentations and of course, nailing my degree.
Before I get into it I’d like to give a disclaimer that this is not a guide to going through college life. Or a hack to college life. I thank you.
There are things I got up to in college, and their morality can be argued and that is not the purpose of this post. Maybe I also do need to say that I wasn’t a wayward college kid. I mean I did things (which I believe were normal to be honest), and there were limits to it…so that puts me on the good side really.
I slept in class Who didn’t? Who dare says they never slept in class? To be quite honest this is a behavior I came with to university from a tender-ish age. Teachers/instructors have a way of making you fall asleep and I say this in the nicest way. Nevermind the fact that I am a teacher now but it is what it is.
Sometimes it wasn’t really sleeping but drifting away. I’d just find myself lost somewhere which is nowhere if that makes sense. Like my mind wasn’t in class but it also wasn’t anywhere specific and now that I think about it, it breaks my heart that I drive a student to that zone. It wasn’t really the lecturer’s fault; (most of the time) but it be like that sometimes. I don’t think my lisp puts my students to sleep, quite the opposite rather (so now I’m that teacher they laugh at, oh how the wheel turns)
I bunked classes. Again, who didn’t? Whether or not there was a good reason behind it, skipping class is skipping class. I had somewhat understandable reasons for it. Either I had woken up late (understandable) or I just didn’t feel like it (hmmm) or I hadn’t prepared my presentation (definitely understandable) – better to “fall sick” right, than look like you’re not serious with school and be the reason for putting the whole class behind with the module or it was a mass lecture and no one cared if or not I was present. If it helps, that only happened less than 10 times (I think) the whole four years of college.
I made friends…with benefits Ha! Of course I did. I so did. So this should tell you that my college phase was the stage where l got my rocks offed. One time, my lips accidentally collided with another boy’s one afternoon after class. Lecture rooms weren’t only for learning 😂…apparently. However this phase was short lived because baby girl caught feelings and the rest is history. Now that I think about it, whenever I had a “thing” going it was almost always with a classmate. Secondary school I dated a boy, though ‘dated’ is a big word to use 😂 (I don’t know what nonsense that was), high school same story (another mhlolo), varsity also a frienefit (friend with benefits) cum boyfriend…God!
I had percentage…in class. By this I mean I once, only once (don’t believe me) had guarana in class. Guarana is only what? 4 or is it 4.5% alcohol, so let’s not make this a big deal. Okay, it’s 5.5% but its only 250ml – so still not a big deal Felicia. Also we didn’t have juice or water and sometimes with food you have to take it down with a beverage, guarana is what was there. Let it be known to you that at that stage, that one small can of double black ice was enough to make my knees weak. However, this guarana incident was the first time me and a friend took percentage in a lecture room and I remember we drank one each and it was fun, all the sneaking and hiding… then after we were done that’s when we started panicking, “what if there’s cctv?”…it was all panic because we were just first years and it was going to kill my parents first before killing me to be expelled from school for drinking alcohol in class (having being suspended in high school, YHO!). We realized it was all just panic, of course there weren’t any cameras and hence, the second time was easy…I AM JOKING!!!!!!! I only did this once (I think😂).
I think these are the only things I got up to at uni that were outside education. And you got to agree that it’s really not that scary nor is it worrisome. I wasn’t that maize planted on the road side. That’s the normal shit😂😂 I still did assignments and other good things a good college kid gets up to like co-publishing a book, submitting my final project on time …I don’t know what else it is that college kids do. Does bring class representative for a year count? Cause there’s that too.
I’m out
With love,
