Stand-up comedy has never been that popular in Bulawayo. I personally heard of it last year. There is a comedy club in Bulawayo named Umahlekisa comedy club, the only club l know in Bulawayo. I had never seen them perform till recently. Saturday the 30th of January the club was at a cultural centre in Matopo, Amagugu International Heritage Centre. It was a free gig so yeah l had to go. They have had gigs in and out of Bulawayo and they are not expensive. I was really eager to see them perform and they didn’t let me down. For something that is new (well that’s what l think) to most of the people, they did a pretty good job. You gotta admit that making people laugh is not easy.
In the picture above are part of the members of the Mahlekisa club with Ntandoyenkosi Moyo (in an orange T-shirt) being the president. I really didn’t get to ask them questions but there are other members who couldnt make it on the day. Among them there is a lady and l find that very refreshing. The one in the middle is Owen, a student from MSU (Midlands State University). Making people laugh makes him happy and he is good at it. The last one is Simbarashe Mandlenkosi, the 50/50 guy- half Shona half Ndebele. Simbarashe was known as ‘the Bulawayo guy’ in the previous Shoko festival in Harare after having left the audience cracking with laughter. So this just goes to show how these guys are determined to make us laugh and if we could appreciate this art and fall in love with it we would make entertainment more fun. So they told us on the day that what they do is to make you laugh for that particular time. You laugh and forget about all your worries and what nots. I vouch for that. I did laugh on the day and at that moment l forgot all them worries. Let us support our people. You can go on facebook and like their page: Umahlekisa Comedy Club and you will get updates on their upcoming shows. Like l said, akuduri so yall gotta go and support your own.
That’s me in a hat of many colors on the day on top of a mountain with the comedians and other visitors. We had braai on top of the mountain courtesy of AIHC. It was a great experience. Simba was cracking up us.

[…] and bad memories. To show my loyalty to the club, I even blogged about them in 2016. Read the post here. Side note: I was fairly a newbie in the blogging scene, do not judge me for a post that only had […]
